The first of Norwegian Breakaway’s external blocks of steel have arrived at Meyer Werft. These two blocks were transported 80 miles via the North Sea and up the Ems river from Bremen, Germany before arriving to the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Block 33 weighs 700 tons and Block 34 weighs 500 tons, totaling the weight of 141 elephants! Block 33 stretches 130.2 feet wide, the full breadth of the ship.  These are the two first blocks that will be lifted into the building dock to be the foundation of The Waterfront and 678 Ocean Place!

Norwegian Continues Innovation & Excitement on Norwegian Breakaway

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

At a press conference today at Cruise Shipping Miami, Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Kevin Sheehan and Senior Vice President of Marketing Maria Miller presented an exciting, all new design concept that will debut on Norwegian Breakaway to a room filled with cruise media from around the world.

This new concept includes an oceanfront boardwalk lined with shops, restaurants and bars, combined with three expansive, flowing decks of dining, bars, entertainment, gaming and more.  According to Sheehan, The Waterfront and 678 Ocean Place will take cruising to new heights and offer an unparalleled experience with a unique connection to the ocean.

Located on Deck 8, The Waterfront is a revolutionary outdoor experience that adds a whole new dimension to the line’s signature Freestyle Cruising, by offering a number of seaside venues that feature breathtaking views and a sense of connection with the ocean.  The hub of the ship is 678 Ocean Place, a space that uniquely flows, intertwines and connects three decks of daytime and nighttime amusements. There will be a total of 17* dining venues combined on both 678 Ocean Place and The Waterfront, along with 12* bars and lounges.  Norwegian will also introduce a new dining concept on Norwegian Breakaway, Ocean Blu, the line’s first ever all-seafood restaurant, which will include a premium raw bar, along with a separate sushi bar.

“In a recent guest survey, our guests chose a seafood restaurant as the number one type of restaurant they would like on board our ships,” said Sheehan.  “We listened to that feedback when planning the dining on Norwegian Breakaway and will launch Ocean Blu as our newest signature restaurant concept.”
